Color Selection For Your Interior Design Project

People say that a picture is worth a thousand words. How many of those words describe the color? Colors are things that most people take for granted, yet they can have a profound and expansive impact on moods, feelings, emotions, and even thoughts.

Advertisers have used colors for decades to promote their products, attempting to subtly convey a message of value through something as simple as color - echoing how colors have been used in societies across the world to denote power (purple, red), mourning (black, mauve, white), calm, clarity or 'clean' energy (green, beige, white) and even excitement (yellow, orange, red). We use colors to communicate everywhere, and this is now filtering into mainstream interior design.

When considering the color selection for your interior design project, what do you want to say about the room? Do you want it to feel full of life, energetic and happy? Or do you want to convey a certain royalty, sophistication and intelligence?

Lets review various colors and see what they will mean for your residence. With any luck, we will find the color that makes any picture of your room worth at least a thousand words.

Beige and Greys

Given the uniformity of the color beige, beige and greys are most often used to convey a feeling of neutrality. In addition, some see lighter hues in this range as organic.

Darker Browns and Greys

When matched together, darker browns and light greys convey a crisp, contemporary feeling. In addition, these colors can also be matched with a single vibrant color, usually in the violets and purples, to create a truly striking, and modern look.

Yellows, Tans, and Whites

Bright and full of life, yellows, tans, and whites when used alone convey a cozy and relaxing feel. In addition, the color selection lends itself well to opening a place up, making it feel simultaneously larger and more welcoming.

Greens, Tans, and Whites

For bringing energy into the room, nothing works better then greens mixed with tans and whites. Green creates a striking experience, lending itself well to those who want a bright and bold experience.

Blues, Greys, and Whites

When matching blue with light grey and white highlights, the final look helps create a modern look. With darker blues, a modern fresh look can be created.

Purple, Light Tans, and Beige

Purple has always been associated with royalty, and that continues with coloring for rooms. The darkest purples work well for the most austere and formal spaces, where as lighter purples can help create an elegant, urban look.

Red, White, and Grey

With a coral red color mixed with white and grey highlights, an interesting and not overly vibrant experience can be created.
